A Strong Campaigner for Havant
I'm not a career politician, but I have been a Conservative supporter and volunteer campaigner since 2000 when I joined the Party as a grassroots rank-and-file member to help William Hague’s “Save the Pound” campaign.
Since then, I have volunteered for the Party locally, regionally and nationally, building a reputation for working hard, deliverying results, and working collaboratively.
I also have a strong record as a campaigner outside of Party politics, notably my work on campaigns against child hunger and poverty (with Magic Breakfast), and in support of Britain's Armed Forces and military veterans (with the Royal British Legion).
I bring that campaigning experience to my work as your local MP across Havant, and as Havant's national representative in Westminster.
Political Interests
My main policy interests are the economy & business including Britain's leadership of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, education & skills, and keeping Britain safe & successful in a changing world (focusing on defence & foreign policy). These are all relevant locally in Havant and reflect the priorities of local residents.
Projects that Alan is currently focusing on include helping Britain become the world leader of the Fourth Industrial Revolution; and “Building the Opportunity Society”, a set of policy ideas to enhance social mobility
For a year, I worked for Rt. Hon. Ed Vaizey MP, former arts, culture and communications/technology Minister. I also served on David Cameron’s Globalisation and Global Poverty Policy Group led by former Cabinet Minister Peter Lilley MP (and advised by Sir Bob Geldof) developing the Party's policies for international trade and aid for the 2010 election.
I've also served as Chairman of the Coningsby Club, an historic and prestigious Conservative policy discussion group & dining society. Founded in 1921, many former Chairmen, including Michael Howard, Jeremy Hunt, Sir Peter Tapsell and Nigel Lawson, have gone on to become MPs, Ministers and Cabinet Ministers.
I'm a member of a number of internal Conservative Party groups such as the Conservative Christian Fellowship, the Conservative Friends of Israel, and the Compassionate Conservatives Caucus.
