The hugely popular Havant Older Persons Information Fair will return to the Hayling Island Community Centre in October, it has been confirmed.
Organised by local MP Alan Mak, last year the event attracted more 1,000 visitors interested in finding out more about the range of services that are on offer to senior citizens across the constituency.
Taking place on Friday 13 October from 10am to 2pm, it is expected to feature around 40 exhibitors who provide help, support or activities for older people – everything from statutory bodies to charities to community groups and clubs. Those confirmed as attending include Age UK, Hampshire Constabulary, Diabetes UK, Hampshire County Council, Citizens Advice Havant, Hayling Island Choir and the Hayling Island First Responders.
The Fair is open to everyone but is aimed at older people, their friends, family, neighbours and carers. No prior registration or booking is needed, with attendees encouraged to drop-in anytime on the day. Parking at the Community Centre is free.
Local MP Alan Mak said: “Last year my first Older Persons Information Fair was a big success, and proved popular in the community, so I decided to bring it back to Hayling Island. It should be a great day showcasing the very best of what is on offer for our senior citizens in the community while also signposting essential services.
“I fully appreciate the hard work and contribution to society made by our older residents, with many of them now running groups for the benefit of the whole community. These help address loneliness, combat illness and improve wellbeing, all of which helps older people live independently for longer, something I am very keen to promote as local MP.
“Hopefully, the Fair will be as fantastically supported as last year, and I hope to meet many residents again on the day.”
The event is being supported by Age UK as a community partner, who praised the success of the event last year.
Rory Massey, Operations Manager of Age UK Portsmouth, said: “I am delighted that Alan's Older Persons Information Fair will be returning for a second consecutive year. Last year it was a very well attended event with a wide range of exhibitors. So whether you are interested in joining a club or would like to find out more about what support is available in the community, I encourage you to come along.”
