General Election 2017

Getting on with the job and making Brexit work is the most important task the Government faces today. Alan backs the decision by the Prime Minister to call an early General Election and has been re-selected as the Conservative MP Candidate for the Havant Parliamentary Constituency. Our future prosperity, our place in the world, and our standard of living all depend on getting the next five years right.

But our opponents - both at home and abroad - are already seeking to disrupt our chances of getting the best deal possible. That is why Theresa May took the decision to call this election – so that we have the strong and stable leadership we need to see us through Brexit and beyond.

The choice at this election is clear. Strong and stable leadership with Theresa May in the interests of the people of the United Kingdom where what you see is what you get. Or a hung Parliament and coalition of chaos under Jeremy Corbyn - which every single one of us will pay for it in higher taxes, fewer jobs, more waste and more debt. This will harm working families and that is too big a risk to take.

Every single vote for Theresa May and the Conservatives is a vote for strong and stable leadership in the national interest. It is a vote to strengthen Britain’s negotiating position to ensure we get the best Brexit deal possible, and it is a vote to strengthen our economy.

Locally, Alan has pledged to continue working hard for Havant if re-elected. Highlights so far include organising several community events backed by the News including two Jobs, Apprenticeships and Careers Fairs, which have helped numerous residents into work; the first Older Persons Information Fair on Hayling Island, which attracted more than 1,000 visitors; and the Havant Small Business Awards that showcased some of the best shops and local businesses in the area.

Alan has made boosting the local economy his top priority over the past two years, promoting Havant as a great place to start and grow a business. He’s succeeded in raising the area’s profile in Parliament as a national centre for the jobs and businesses of the future, in areas like 3D printing and advanced manufacturing.

In addition, he’s visited many major employers in the area such as Lockheed Martin, Lewmar, Apollo Fire Detectors and Langstone Technology Park to understand the needs of local firms. The number of Jobseekers’ Allowance claimants in Havant is down by over 50% since 2010.

For budding entrepreneurs Alan recently secured £250,000 of government money to launch his Havant Business Support Fund which helps local people start or grow a business. Since being first elected Alan has also attended hundreds of community events and supported many local initiatives. To find out more about what Alan has been doing in your area click here
